Dorothy Ormson, age 84, died Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.

FUNERAL service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, November 17 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley.

VISITATION will be Thursday, November 16 from 4-7 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.

Burial will be in 1st Lutheran Cemetery, Barron, Wisconsin.

Dorothy was born November 14, 1932 to John and Dorothy (Smith) Siewert near Barron, WI. She graduated from Barron High School and later went to Eau Claire School of Cosmetology to become a beautician. Dorothy married Dean Ormson of Barron on May 4, 1954 at Pine City, MN. They moved to Menomonie where they resided for many years and were active members in the community and raised a family of four boys. Dorothy worked as a secretary in Menomonie Schools and owned and operated Norge Village Dry Cleaners for 22 years. Dorothy was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church for many years until moving to Spring Valley in 1989 when they transferred to St John’s Lutheran. Dean died in 1995.

Dorothy had a zest for life, lived a life of values, and was proud of her heritage and family. She loved visiting, traveling, golfing, yard work, gardening, making clothes, walking and other activities. An avid fan of sports teams she especially liked the Packers and Brewers. Dorothy was a great cook who enjoyed serving up tasty meals for family and guests. She also enjoyed her rustic cabin near Spooner, where fishing, playing cards and going out to dance were part of the staples.

Later, Dorothy and her special friend, Chuck Thill, built a home in Spring Valley and enjoyed their retirement years together. She was especially fond of her dog and their trips to Florida for a few months each winter.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Ormson, parents and four brothers, Harvey, Vernon, John, and Donald.

She is survived by her sister Marjorie LaLiberty of Barron, sister-in-law Joan Siewert of Kasson MN, sister-in-law Carlotta Siewert of Las Vegas, sons Gregory (Debbie) of Apache Junction AZ, Mitchell (Patricia) of Chaska MN, Timothy (Susan) of Spring Valley, and Brian (Tamara) of Glenwood City, eight grandchildren; Ashley, Briana, Desmond, Terrell, Tyler, Ryan, Kally, Joel, and three great grandchildren; Tatum, Carter, and Henry.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov 16 from 4-7 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church and one hour before the service on Friday. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Spring Valley on Friday, Nov 17 at 11 a.m. Dorothy will be laid to rest at First Lutheran Church Cemetery at Barron, WI.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support, St. Croix hospice, many health care providers who have shown care and kindness to her, and the entire staff at Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.
