I am so sad to read of the passing of Mary Etta, one of my classmates from the class of 1963. I remember her as a very gentle, kind person. It was fun for me to see her at the restaurant where she was often a greeter and at the class reunions. My thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family. She will be missed by many.

Mary and I chatted daily on the phone, and I dearly loved her. Upon her brother's suggestion I wrote up some of Mary's admirable traits:
1. excellent, calm, uncritical listener (Who needed a psychologist with Mary as a confidant?)
2. dependable, reliable, and prompt (unlike 99% of the rest of us)
3. forgiving and accepting of others' imperfections coupled with her wisdom that she couldn't and didn't need to change other people
4. in later years she stopped worrying excessively (Her mother's last words to Mary were "don't worry" and Mary came close to achieving that before her death)
5. once she made up her mind about changing something about herself she had tremendous strength - such as quitting smoking and sticking to a diet to lose weight
6. managed her finances well, managed her property well
7. remembered relatives' and friends' birthdays
8. knew her limits, and was able to set boundaries with others to keep her stress levels low
9. very intelligent (top grades high school & college) with generally good common sense
10. lived a life of gratitude
11. loved her surroundings on the farm
12. humble, unassuming, gentle, kind (as you mentioned)
13. gifted athletically (top bowler, participated in many sports in high school & college)

Mary Etta and I were classmates at RFHS. I remember her lovely home on 3rd Street. She had a quiet, observant way about her and a charming smile. My condolences to her family and friends.

Dear Greg and Sue, We are so sorry to hear that Mary is gone. She and Carver were older than I, but I always looked up to both of them. You Olsens and our cousin, Camy, are the closest I've ever had to brothers and sisters even though we only got to spend time together in the summers when we came home. Love to both of you and to Carver's family. Scott and Lauri
