William Smith Obituary

William ‘Bill’ Smith, age 72 of Wilson, Wisconsin died Saturday, September 14, 2019 at his home in Cady Township.

A Celebration of Life for Bill will be Friday, September 20, 2019 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Wilson Legion, Wilson, Wisconsin.

A memorial service will be on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 5 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church, Spring Valley with visitation from 3-5 p.m. at church prior to the service.

Burial will be in Brookville Cemetery, Eau Galle Township, Wisconsin.

Bill was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin to Harry and Margaret (Adams) Smith.  He grew up and attended school in Elmwood.

He met his wife, Diane Hampton, at Connell’s Orchard and on May 28, 1966, Diane and William were married at 1st Baptist Church, Woodville. They were blessed with 5 children: Kari, Patrick, Shawn, Jamie and Kory who they raised together on a farm.  Bill worked as roofer in the Twin Cities for many years.  He also farmed.  He quit farming after losing his arm in an accident.  He then retired from the American Legion in Wilson as a bartender.

Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Diane; baby son Patrick; siblings: Mark Smith and his wife Donna; Dave Smith; and Mary Ellen and her husband Clinton Morissette; in-laws: John and Myrtle Hampton; Bernard; Roger and Hugh Hampton;  Joan and Gerald ‘Louie’ Brunkhorst; Emily Hampton; Everett Meyers; nieces Donna Hampton, Jeri Brunkhorst and Lori Morissette; and nephew Darrell Smith.

Survivors include his children: Kari Hillstead of Hammond; Shawn (Shelly Meech) Smith of Woodville; Jamie Smith of Hudson; and Kory Smith of Wilson; siblings: Patricia (Richard) Hippauf; Sharon Van Dahl; and Robert (Sue) Smith; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; in laws: Shirley Hampton, Carol Meyers, Fran Hampton, Rita Hampton, and Mary Hampton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Honorary bearers are grandchildren: Steven Anderson, Brandon Hillstead, Codie Hillstead, Linsey Scott, Shantelle Smith, Tyrell Smith, Trenton Smith, Trace Smith, and Kya DeConinck.
