Fern Moldenhauer Obituary

Fern A Moldenhauer (née Murray), 97, formerly of Spring Valley WI, St. Paul, Mission TX, and Oakdale joined her husband in heaven on November 10, 2019.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St Matthews Lutheran Church in Spring Valley WI. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.

Born in Arkansaw, WI the daughter of Helen (Strese) and Percy Murray on May 10, 1922.  Fern married LaVern Moldenhauer in Weston WI on January 30, 1943.

Fern displayed a quiet, yet strong demeanor. Liked by everyone, she developed respect and admiration with all she met. Never one to pass up a good card game, one had to beware of her competitive nature.

A true stay-at-home mom, she raised three wonderful daughters and a husband. Fern’s goal in life was to be known as a great mother and grandmother. It is truly believed she accomplished both.

Never having “anything to wear” she always dressed impeccably. Shopping with her daughters became a Saturday ritual, along with the standing hair and nail appointments. Cooking was also a desired skill. She enjoyed it very much and was excellent in the kitchen. Making the daily breakfast for LaVern was one of her pleasures in life. The only frequent kitchen lapse appeared to be forgetting to serve the Thanksgiving dinner rolls until the meal was over.  She was always forgiven because the meal was so good.

With an incredible memory and recall, it was difficult to test the past with her. Remembering time, places, people and details was second to none.  For 97 years this world was a much better place with her in it.

Preceded in death by parents Helen and Percy Murray, sister Violet Kuesel, brothers Wayne and Bob Murray, sisters-in-law Audrey Swanson and Ina Murray, brothers-in-law Gene Swanson, Herman Kuesel and Neil Brunkhorst.

Fern is survived by daughters: Dianne (Paul) Rettinger, Sally (Steve) Keller and Yvonne (Rocky) Wilske; grandchildren: Greg (Debra) Rettinger, Rob (Kristy Reed) Keller, Stacy Rettinger and Ann (Preston) Schrupp; great grandchildren: Robert and Dustin Mazzara, Jacob Reed, Libby, Emily and Erica Rettinger, Tyler, Hayden and Luke Schrupp. Additionally, sister-in-law Phyllis Brunkhorst, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are: Greg Rettinger, Rob Keller, Robert Mazzara, Dustin Mazzara, Preston Schrupp, Bill Goveronski, Dan Brunkhorst, Tyler Schrupp, and Luke Schrupp.
