Leone ‘Lee’ Wood, age 98 of Knapp, formerly of Spring Valley died Sunday, August 5, 2018 at The Neighbor’s of Dunn County in Menomonie.
FUNERAL SERVICE for Lee is Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.
VISITATION will be Wednesday, August 8 from 4-7 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley and at church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Burial will be in the Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley, Wisconsin.
Lee was born June 12, 1920 to John and Ida (Hoyt) Smith in Rock Elm, Wisconsin. She grew up at Rock Elm, Wisconsin and attended elementary school in Menomonie and High School at Elmwood, graduating with the Class of 1939. After high school, Lee took a correspondence course for home decorating and interior design.
On December 24, 1941 Lee married Orin Wood. They were married at the home of her parents at Farm Hill in Rock Elm. They purchased a farm in rural Spring Valley, where they raised their 5 children. She stayed home to raise her family and help on the farm. After her children graduated and moved out on their own, Lee returned to work. She worked at the Menomonie Hospital, Menomonie Library and the Glenwood Handcrafters Shop. For the past 6 years she has lived with her daughter Mary Jane at Knapp.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orin; son Tim; brother Clark; sister Bernice; infant brother John ‘Jacky’; daughters-in-law Carol and Georgia; great grandson Joshua; grandchildren Nicholas Wood and Denise Wood; and numerous in-laws.
Survivors include 4 children: Orlen (Patty) Wood of Milwaukee; Terry Wood of Spring Valley; Scott (Susan) Wood of Spring Valley; Mary Jane Hecker of Knapp; daughter-in-law Shelli Wood of Spring Valley; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Grace Wood of Spring Valley; many other relatives and friends.
