Neil Brunkhorst

Neil A. Brunkhorst, age 94, of Prescott, WI died Monday, July 22, 2019 after suffering a massive stoke a few days earlier. 

Memorial service will be on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prescott located at 1048 Campbell St. N.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019 at St Paul’s.

Burial will be in St Michael’s Cemetery, rural Spring Valley.

Neil was born June 17, 1925 to Irwin and Clara (Thomforde) Brunkhorst at Belvidere Township, Goodhue County, MN.  He grew up and attended school at Lake City.  Neil enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served with the Seabees building airstrips during WWII.  After returning from his military service, Neil farmed with his father and brother Gerald “Louie” in Eau Galle Township on Country Road B.  He met and married the love of his life, Phyllis Moldenhauer.  They were married April 15, 1950 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, rural Spring Valley.  They lived by Woodville spent a short time in California before returning to farm in Cady Township.  They built a home in Prescott in 1966 and lived there until moving to Comforts of Home in December 2018.

In addition to farming, Neil ran a gas station, did carpentry work, drove over the road and more recently delivered for a courier company.  He retired in 1987.  Neil loved to fish and hunt and spend time with his loving family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two infant brothers Dale and Morris; brothers Gerald ‘Louie’ and his wife Joan; sisters Kathryn Chambers and Lorraine Zillmer and husband Victor; and son-in-law Ken Hart.

He is survived by wife Phyllis; 4 children: Pamela (Ken) Herink; Ann Hart; Daniel (Sue) Brunkhorst; and David (Camille) Brunkhorst; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren: Nicosia (Corbett) Hoenninger and children Levi and Brek; Mathew (Erica) Herink and children Elliot, Simon, and Owen; Ryan (Jennifer) Herink and children Luke, Jackson and Julia; Melissa (Kurt) Tape; Jared (Kelly) Schickling and children Nina and Sam; Lindsey Schickling; Amanda (Al) Peterson and daughter Mikayla Cudd; Jacob (Jessica) Brunkhorst and children Gage and Holt; Connor (Kayla) Brunkhorst and children Camden and Miley; Megan Brunkhorst and daughter Rhylee; and Abbey Brunkhorst; many other relatives and friends.

Honorary bearers are grandsons Matt, Ryan, Jared, Jacob, and Connor and nephew Marvin Chambers.

Military honors will be performed by the Prescott American Legion Post 61

Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, rural Spring Valley.
