Rinehart and Ella (Moldenhauer) Timm had their first child on October 6th, 1928 and named her Betty Marie.  She was born at home on their farm in Cady Township.  Betty was followed by brother Junior and sister Sharon, both now deceased. The children attended the Planview country school graduating from the eighth grade in a ceremony at the then county seat, Hammond, Wisconsin.  Betty went to high school in Spring Valley and graduated in 1946.  As a junior she reigned as Homecoming Queen.  Rudolph Syverson was her principal, and it was from him that Betty got her driver’s license.  Those were the days.

At the afore mentioned eighth grade graduation ceremony, Betty met a young man, Jack Colburn.  He was the youngest of thirteen children.  At a family wedding, a group of the young people went to a dance at the White Owl and Betty and Jack, and his sister Virginia, were among them.  On October 8, 1949, Jack and Betty were married at St. Matthew’s Lutheran parsonage in Hatchville.  Jack had taken over the home place and they lived there and raised their children.  They were together of 64 years.  Their oldest daughter Wendy and husband Roger Clark lived on the homestead now and the farm has been in the family for over one hundred years. Sadly, a second daughter, Denise Steinmeyer is deceased, a victim of a motorcycle accident.

When the children were older, Betty tended bar at the White Owl and at Schillinger’s Bar.  Jack and Betty were still farming when Jack brought home a heavy-duty sewing making harnesses and shoes in the basement.  The business grew and Jack moved it to a cabin bought and transported from Fred’s Pleasant View.  The next move was to the garage.  Betty worked right along with Jack and said she just loved to fix shoes.

She moved to Park View Home in Woodville and enjoyed any and all activities, including playing cards, visiting with the coffee bunch, and most of all spending time with family and friends.  Her positive attitude and contagious smile make her a joy to be around.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Jack; daughter Denise; siblings Junior and his wife Elaine; and Sharon Johannsen.

She is survived by daughter Wendy (Roger) Clark of Woodville; granddaughters Billie Jo (Scott) Kostman of Wilson, WI. and Amy (Matt) Foss of Kenyon, Minnesota; grandson Deric (Danielle) Steinmeyer of Menomonie, WI.; great grandson Cole Steinmeyer;  nephew Dean (Sue) Timm of Wilson; sister-in-law: Jeanette Colburn of Wilson; brother-in-law Bill Johannsen of St. Paul; two nieces: Lynn and Jason Thoen and Jill Johannsen; other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Visitation was from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at church prior to the service .  Bearers were Scott Kostman, Deric Steinmeyer, Matt Foss, Dean Timm, Jason Thoen, and Cole Steinmeyer.
