Betty Wheeler, age 84, of Spring Valley, died Friday, July 8, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 1-3 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley.
Betty was born January 18, 1938, in Talladega, Alabama to Thomas and Flora (Starr) Horn. She attended Winterboro High School in Alpine, Alabama and graduated with the Class of 1956.
Right out of high school, Betty joined the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, she met Rex Wheeler and they were married April 11, 1958, in Port Deposit, Maryland. After they were married, Betty and Rex moved to Minnesota and lived in Oakdale for over 30 years. They moved to Spring Valley in 1990 after Rex retired. Betty began working as a C.N.A. at the Spring Valley Nursing Home and worked there until 2011. Prior to that she had worked at Eco Water in the Twin Cities for 24 years.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, including all dogs in the family. Betty also was an avid Twins and Vikings fan, as well as the Alabama Crimson Tide. Betty enjoyed embroidery and crocheting various items for family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Rex; brothers: Enos, Fred and Thomas.
Survivors include son Ben (Sharon) Wheeler of Oakdale, MN, daughter Kim (Art) Gerst of St. Peters, MO, grandkids Dan (Kaylee) Krogh of St Cloud, MN, April (fiancé Eric Olheiser) Wheeler of Cottage Grove, MN.
