Beulah Thompson, age 92, of Spring Valley passed peacefully away in early morning on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar in Menomonie.
A private graveside service will be Thursday, July 2, at Zumbrota Cemetery, Zumbrota Minnesota. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Beulah was born December 26, 2020 the daughter of Alfred and Beata (Wondrasch) Monthei at Red Wing, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed January 14, 1928 at St John’s Church in Mazeppa, Mn and confirmed July 2, 1940 also at St John’s in Mazeppa.
She graduated from Mazeppa High School with the Class of 1945. She worked at Ven V. Mars Store in Mazeppa for about one year. On September 3, 1946 she married Donald Finstuen at St John’s in Mazeppa. They lived in Minnesota for several years before moving to Wisconsin.
During this time Beulah worked at Thompson’s Café in Spring Valley. She worked there from 1954 to 1978, being owner/operator from 1970 until 1978. She also worked in food service at the Spring Valley High School from 1980 until 1992.
She was married to Leonard Thompson on February 4, 1955 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. Beulah was an active member of St John’s and served many positions including the Women of the ELCA and library board. Beulah was Grand Marshall for Spring Valley Dam Days Parade in 2000 and was recognized as Pierce County most admired person of the year at the county fair.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 brothers and their wives: Harold and Evelyn Manthei and Delmar and Talita Manthei; and her sister Donna and her husband Harold Heise.
She is survived by 2 sons: Kenneth (Karen) Finstuen and Garry Finstuen; 3 grandchildren: Kendra, Krista, and Kevin; 3 great grandchildren: Kaylee, Mya, and Sophia; many other relatives and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Zumbrota Cemetery in Zumbrota, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
