Doug Hinzman, age 73, of Menomonie, formerly Spring Valley died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie with his wife by his side.
A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 2-5 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley. A memorial service will be held from 3:30 until 4 p.m. also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery Association, Christ Lutheran Church furnace fund, or a charity of your choice.
He was born December 11, 1947, to Walter and Odelia (Anderson) Hinzman in Pierce County, the 5th of 6 sons. After graduating from Spring Valley High School in 1966, he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers building the S.V. dam, Presto Industries in Eau Claire, and Sweeney Brothers Construction before purchasing the family farm in 1974, which he owned and operated for 27 years. He also was in the Naval Reserves and was stationed in California and aboard the USS Enterprise. After moving to Menomonie, Doug was employed by Phillips Medsize and Northwest Transportation, where he was employed at the time of his death.
On September 2, 1972, he married Kathryn Helmke at Spring Lake Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 2 children, Heather and Ryan.
Doug is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Heather (Rob) Mathis, son Ryan (Lindsay) Hinzman, grandchildren Malerie, Bobby and Chandler Mathis, and Sean, Grant and Devon Hinzman, sisters-in-law Wilma Hinzman, Kay (Lee) Hinzman, Sandy Hinzman and Chris Geiger, brother-in-law Ed (Cindy) Helmke, nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, grandson Jake Daniel, brothers Laroy, Ted, Kent, Don and Bill, and niece Kim Hinzman.
