Ed Place Obituary

Edward Place, age 78, of Beldenville, Wisconsin, died Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Ellsworth.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from 3-6:30 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Beldenville, Wisconsin, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m. at Our Savior’s.

Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Ed was born November 19, 1940 in El Paso Township to Isaac and Elma (Christopherson) Place.  He grew up in El Paso where he attended Hines Elementary School and Ellsworth High School, graduating with the Class of 1958.

He married Dorene Swanson on March 4, 1961 at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.  They lived in Beldenville, WI where they raised three children, two sons and a daughter.  Ed worked as a truck driver for 40 years.  He drove for Lametti & Sons Trucking, Hines Transfer, Blue Transit Inc, and Yellow Freight.  He was a member of the Teamsters for 33 years and was proud of being 40 years accident free. After retiring, Ed worked at the Ellsworth Country Club for 18 years where he developed lifelong friendships.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers.  He played football and ran track in high school, was an excellent fastpitch pitcher (Fast Eddy), and followed Ellsworth Wrestling for years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, and cooking maple syrup.

Ed was active in the community and was a founding member of the Eau Galle Rush River Sportsman’s Club, and helped organize the Beldenville Old Car Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents,  wife Dorene ‘Dori’; daughter Kim; great grandson Isaiah Fern-Denzer; and brother-in-law Donnie Taplin.

He is survived by two sons: Thomas (Tatum Huppert) of River Falls, WI. and Nathan (JoAnn) of Beldenville, WI.; five grandchildren: Jaimie (Danny) Schnacky, Shaunie Place, Emma Place, Travis (Tina) Denzer and Elijah Denzer; ten great grandchildren, Ethan, Chayce, and Eli Fern-Denzer, Devin, Ellie and Lulu Denzer, Ridley and Raimey, and Effie and Henry Schnacky; sister Norma Taplin, brother Leonard (Mary) Place; in-laws: Barb (Ron) Dinger, Theresa (Dewey) Odalen, Velma Olson, Deedee Swanson, Steve (Betty) Swanson, Brad (Shay) Swanson, Reggie (Luetta) Swanson, Bonnie Swanson, and Pat Swanson, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 7 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Beldenville, Wisconsin.  Visitation will be from 3-6:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Honorary Bearer is Jeff Taplin.

Ed and his wife, Dori, will be laid to rest together at a later date.
