Forrest Johnson

Forrest Johnson, age 81, of Baldwin, Wisconsin, died Friday, June 21, 2024, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

A luncheon will follow the service.

Forrest Robert Johnson was born July 5th, 1942, to parents Forrest and Florence (Christensen) Johnson and joined with his sister Jeannie Esperson.

He graduated high school in Baldwin-Woodville in May 1961. Forrest joined the Army January 12th, 1962, where he received ribbons for marksman and sharpshooter.

Forrest then married his beautiful wife of 57 years Luella A. Halverson on February 25th, 1967. He attended Vo-Tech in St Paul MN. He went to work for American Hoist.

Forrest and Luella then were blessed with four children: Julie, Shari, Jennifer and Jason. Sadly, Jason passed away in 1986.

Forrest had a dairy farm in Baldwin for 15 years. After selling the farm, Forrest went to work for Metro Waste Treatment Plant in St Paul Mn. He worked there for 15 years.

Along with all his husband and father duties, he always made time to help  out his community. He volunteered for several non-profit organizations that were dear to his heart. Operation Lift Off -Habitat for Humanity and coaching softball for the local 4-H club.

After retiring from Metro, he moved to Arizona where he went to work for Gilbert Waste Management. After several years, Forrest was able to semi retire again and began driving school bus and truly found this to be rewarding.

In 2018 he finally retired and returned back home to Baldwin Wisconsin where he enjoyed fishing, hiking and his nightly treat at Dairy Queen.

He was truly proud of all his grandchildren. They were all held close to his heart - Jesse, Alyssa, Amanda and James.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Jason.

Survivors include his wife Luella; daughters and spouses: Julie and Lloyd Prater, Shari and Wade Hurst, and Jennifer (Greg Stewart) Johnson; his 4 grandchildren; sister Jeannie Esperson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On July 21st, 2024, Forrest passed away peacefully at Regions Hospital in St Paul Minnesota. He is and will be missed by all his friends and family.

Visitation and service will be held at Gilman Lutheran church, Spring Valley, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024.  Visitation is from 10 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service which begins at 11:00 a.m.
