Gerald VanSchoonhoven Obituary

Visitation for Gerald has now been set for Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 1-4 p.m. at Keehr Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at 5:30 p.m. at Shell Lake Cemetery in Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Gerald “Tiny” Leroy VanSchoonhoven, 87, of Spring Valley, WI passed away on July 9, 2020 at the Spring Valley Healthcare Center.

Gerald was born on June 25, 1933 to Carl and Minnie (Hase) VanSchoonhoven. He was one of nine children, and the last one to pass away. Gerald married Joanne Wennerberg on September 12, 1964. They resided in Waverly. He was a can milk hauler and later had his own bulk milk route for many years. Gerald and Joanne owned Waverly Bar in the early 70s. He was an ironworker and also worked for the Pierce County Highway Department until his retirement. He was a farmer at heart and loved his hobby farm in Waverly. After retirement, Gerald and Joanne sold the farm and moved to rural Balsam Lake. In his retirement, he spent time working for a farmer and fishing lakes in the area.

Gerald loved to ice fish, watch the Green Bay Packers, and spend time with his family. He enjoyed having a cold beer while visiting with family and friends.

Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (2013); parents, Carl and Minnie; in-laws, Kurt and Verna Wennerberg; and his eight siblings: Juanita, William, Marjorie, Jack, Gene, Marlyn, Robert, and Neil.

He is survived by his son, Kurt (Doris) VanSchoonhoven of Elk Mound, WI; daughter, Katie (Joe) Manor of River Falls, WI; grandchildren, Jordan and Paige VanSchoonhoven, Megan and Bailey Manor; granddog, Stella; and many other loving family and friends.

A special thank you to the staff at Spring Valley Healthcare Center and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care and to Ross Keehr of Keehr Funeral Home for his compassion and professionalism.

Gerald’s services will be held at a later date. Memorials and condolences can be sent to the family.
