John Nelson

John Nelson, age 89, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, died Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie.

Memorial service will be Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.  Visitation will be for one hour at church prior to the service.

Burial will be in Spring Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.

Luncheon will follow the burial at Welcome Home, in Elmwood.

John was born May 28, 1936, to Gustav and Marie (Johnson) Nelson in Spring Lake Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin.  He grew up on the family farm and attended Elmwood Schools, graduating with the Class of 1954.  He went on to study at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

On April 4, 1959, John married Vera Neck at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. They lived and farmed all their married life in Spring Lake Township and wintered in Arizona for many years. John also worked a number of years for Farm Credit Services.  He was a lifelong member of Spring Lake Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his siblings and their spouses: Glenn and Dorothy Nelson; Galen and Murial Nelson; Ruth and Dick Swanson; Esther and Art Lamon; nieces and nephews: Mary Nelson, Tim O’Connell, Kristen Biseo, Arnie Nelson, Karen Langness, David Siegel, George Lamon, Roxanne Davis, Steve Orr, and Ralph Arnold.

Survivors include his wife Vera; nieces and nephews: Jim Nelson, Jeff (Karen) Nelson, Jerry (Andrea) Nelson, Gail O’Connell, Greg (Vicki) Nelson, Carrie (Jan Hare) Nelson, Lori Nelson, Ann Nelson Siegel, Ed (Susie) Nelson, David (Miriam) Swanson, Glenda Arnold, Dana Orr.
