Larry Larson, age 93, of Woodville, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home in Eau Galle Township.
Memorial service will be Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 12 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Baldwin. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the church prior to the service.
A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Larry was born January 27, 1933, to Selmer & Edna (Mathison) Larson at their home farm in Eau Galle Township, Woodville, WI. He had 3 older brothers-Marvin, Eugene and Clifford (Skip). He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville, WI. Larry attended the rural Loyalty school for elementary and graduated with the class of 1951 from the Woodville High School.
He volunteered for the draft and was sworn into the Army in Minneapolis, MN on June 2, 1954. He completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. After a 2-week leave, Larry reported to Fort Sill, Oklahoma to be trained as an Artillery Ballistic Meteorologist. This involved sending up large weather balloons that had battery powered radio transmitters attached. Once training was completed, he finished by serving with the Army in Norfolk, VA at the Naval Air Base and with the Weather Bureau at the Norfolk Municipal Airport. He enjoyed his time in the service and was honorably discharged on June 1, 1956. Larry was an active member of the Woodville American Legion Post 301. He was always proud to march in the Syttende Mai parade with the color guard and serve at honor guard and Memorial Day events.
After returning home, Larry worked at a service station in Knapp, WI for several years. One August evening in 1958, Larry saw Nancy Koehler with her friends while attending a dance at the “400 Club” Dance Pavillion outside of Menomonie. Sparks flew and a courtship ensued and on June 5, 1960 they were wed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI. Larry joined his father Selmer working on the family dairy farm and later took over the business. Larry & Nancy raised their children-Gregory, Terry, Suzanne and Mark, in the faith to honor God and steward the land. Larry loved to dance, had a wonderful sense of humor and was deeply in love with his sweetheart Nancy. He taught his children the value of hard work, and the joy of play. He felt extremely blessed to be the Grandpa or Bestafar to 8 of the most wonderful and amazing kids. Being a great grandfather brought much joy to his heart as well.
Surrounded by his family, Larry died peacefully on March 11, 2026 at the home where he was born. The family is grateful for the loving support of St. Croix Hospice that helped honor his wish to be at home. He was a man of great faith. The family is confident that he received a warm welcome into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus and was greeted by family and friends that went on before him. His favorite Bible verse was Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
He is preceded in death by his parents Selmer & Edna, his parents in-law, Raymond & Wilma (Hagen) Koehler, son Gregory Michael, brothers Skip & Gene, sister in-law, Martha Larson, brother in-law, Michael Koehler and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
His legacy of faith and love will be carried on by his family. Larry will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of over 65 years, Nancy. Their children: Terry (Lyla) Larson of Woodville, Suzanne (David) VanDien of Hackensack, MN and Mark (Lyn) Larson of Emerald, WI. Eight grandchildren: Caleb (Brenda) Larson, Anna Mae VanDien (Jerry) Whalen, Bailey (Lance) Winegar, Allen (Amy) VanDien, LeAnn (Clay) Bartels, Luke (Hailey) Larson, J.C.-Joshua (Nichole) Larson, and Abby (Michael) Fitch. Three great-grandchildren: Barrett & Lettie Larson and Reni Hart VanDien, plus 1 more on the way. He will also be remembered by his brother Marvin (Ruth) Larson, sister in-laws, Carole Larson and Diane Koehler, his breakfast buddies, and his many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
