Lois Verges Obituary

Lois Verges, age 83, died Friday, December 26, 2025 at Comforts of Home in Menomonie, WI.

Visitation for Lois will be on Saturday, January 3, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.

Memorial service will follow visitation on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Gilman Lutheran.

Burial will be in Gilman Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.

She was born on July 13, 1942 in St Paul, MN to Melvin K. and Lenore (Pittlekow) Schuldt. She graduated from Harding High School in 1960.

She married the love of her life, Gordon Verges, in 1960, and were together for 58 years until his death in 2019. They were blessed with 5 children.

Lois worked briefly as an office assistant at an insurance company in St. Paul until their first child was born. In 1971, the family moved to the farm in Spring Valley, WI, and the city girl became the farm wife. It was a challenging transition at first but she grew to love the farm and the community. She often said, in her later years, how lucky she was to raise her family in Spring Valley.

As the kids were growing, she became involved in many of their activities. She was very involved in 4-H, including being a Project Leader.  She was also very active with the SV Band Boosters, among other activities.

Lois was also an active member of Gilman Lutheran Church for most of her life and was a dedicated member of WELCA.

As the kids grew older, she was able to get involved with other pursuits. She served as Gilman’s Town Clerk for several years. She worked in the Pierce County Fair office for a number of years, where she really liked working behind the scenes at the fair, and she worked as a clerk at Red Barn Country Store for several years.

Lois also had her own antique/used furniture shop, Country Collage, at the farm, which came from her love of garage sales and bargain shopping. She always had a keen eye for home decor and was known for her well decorated house.

Lois and Gordon sold the farm and retired up north on a lake in Gordon, WI in 2004. There they enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of the north woods and especially enjoyed the visits from their kids and grandkids. They also enjoyed occasional visits to nearby casinos. In 2016, they moved back to Spring Valley to be closer to family and friends. Lois spent the last 2 years at Valley Villas before her recent move to Comforts of Home.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gordon; brother Clarence, and in-laws.

She is survived by her 5 children; Phil (Judy) Verges, Sharon Verges, Randy (Donna) Verges, Linnea (Troy) Miller, and Brad Verges, 12 Grand Children and 13 Great Grand Children, Sisters; Elaine (David) Baudoin and Phyllis Griebling, and many other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Valley Villas, Adoray and Comforts of Home in Menomonie for their exceptional care of Lois.
