Mary Vanasse, age 88, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, died Friday, October 31, 2025, at Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mary was born January 8, 1937 to Edward and Cecelia (Eisenbart) Howe in Lyons Township, near Burlington, Wisconsin. She attended school at St. Mary’s High School in Burlington and graduated with the Class of '54.
A few years after graduation, she met David Vanasse. They were married on July 30, 1960 in Janesville, Wisconsin. They started their life and family in Hudson, WI. They were blessed with 5 children: Linda, Tom, Susan, Scott, and Eric.
David and Mary farmed together in Gilman Township from 1967 until David’s death in 2005. Mary continued living on the farm until moving to Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center about 2 years ago.
Mary enjoyed taking care of her family and being outdoors on the farm. Things she loved that she also considered her hobbies included: baking, gardening, hosting family get togethers and documenting family times with photos and stories.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband David; daughter Susan and her husband Tim Ormson; granddaughter-in-law Shannon; great grandson Leo; siblings and in-laws: Bill and Mary Lois Howe; Bob and Kathy Howe; Jim and Janet Howe; Carole and Bob May; and Barb and Jack Rowe.
Survivors include her children: Linda (Russ) Atter; Tom (Cindy) Vanasse; Scott (Lisa) Vanasse; and Eric (Holly) Vanasse; 9 grandchildren: Brandon (Brenda) Johnson; Jesse Johnson; Michelle (Jess) Moe; Carrie (Jason) Helland; Luke (Katie) Vanasse; Mariah Vanasse; Alyssa Atter; Abigail (Micah Day) Vanasse; and Andrew Vanasse; great grandchildren: Adia, Hudson, Molly, Mila, Emily, Katelynn, Rayna, Barrett, and Rome: brother-in-law: Irvin Vanasse, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Gilman Lutheran Church, Spring Valley.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at church prior to the service.
Burial will be Gilman Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.
