Nancy Ellefson Obituary

Nancy Lee (Hanson) Ellefson, age 85, passed away peacefully at home in her loving husband’s arms on Saturday September 14, 2024, in Ellsworth, Wisconsin.

Visitation/Celebration of Life for Nancy will be Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9-11 a.m. at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at English Lutheran Church following the visitation.

Burial will be at a later date in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Valley.

Memorials may be directed to Pierce County Animal Shelter or the Cancer Society.

Nancy was born in Spring Valley, Wisconsin on October 17, 1938 to Harvey and Lois (Moore) Hanson.  She graduated from Spring Valley High School with the Class of 1956. She continued her education at UW-River Falls receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1959 and began a teaching career that spanned 36 years.  Nancy taught in Spring Valley, Elmwood, and Ellsworth, retiring  in 1995.

Nancy married her childhood sweetheart, Vern Ellefson, on August 18, 1959.  They were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley where she was also baptized and confirmed.

Nancy was an active member of English Lutheran Church  where she was a W.E.L.C.A officer, a choir member, and sang in Spirit Song.  She was a tireless volunteer and especially took joy in the worship services with the pastors at the Ellsworth Care Center. She was a member of the River Falls Area Retired Teachers and Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association.

Nancy was an avid reader and enjoyed the book club.  She was a long time member of Ellsworth Country Club and enjoyed playing golf.  She loved her family and took special joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Harvey and Lois (Moore) Hanson and her sister Muriel (Hanson) Jeffries.

She is survived by her husband Vern; her children Niccola (Kerwin) McClung, Lisa Schwartzbauer, and Michael (Corrie) Ellefson; her four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and soon to be great-great grandchild.

A Celebration of Life for Nancy will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, Wisconsin.  Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., with the Memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. immediately following the visitation at the church.  Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley is handling arrangements.
