Palmer Ketterling Obituary

Palmer Ketterling, age 81, of Ellsworth, Wisconsin died Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home.

Funeral service for Palmer is Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 5 p.m. at Abundant Life Church, River Falls.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 3 until 5 p.m. prior to the service at the Abundant Life Church.

Burial is in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Beldenville.

Palmer Ketterling, age 81, of Ellsworth, Wisconsin died peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home following a battle with cancer.

Palmer was born April 5, 1938 to Daboldt and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling Sr in LaMoure, North Dakota.  He was raised on the family farm with 14 brothers and sisters.  He graduated from LaMoure High School in 1956.  After high school he joined the Army.  He went on to study agriculture at the University of North Dakota-Fargo.

On December 1, 1962 Palmer married Betty Lou Sterler at Sibley, Iowa.  They were blessed with three children: Dean, Shawn and Brian.  Betty died in 1980.  Palmer was employed in the grain industry for most of his life.  He loved to spend time with his family fishing in the Northern Minnesota at the cabin.  He also enjoyed hunting and trapping.  He had a great love for the outdoors, sports, and was an avid Twins and Vikings fan.

On October 5, 2013 Palmer married Joy Mitchell with whom he spent 20 years.  Palmer and Joy had a beautiful life together.  They enjoyed travelling, fishing, and the cabin life.  Joy said she always knew God put them together because they had the same thoughts so many times, and that God gave him to her as a soul mate. Palmer will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his big heart. He always wanted to help people.

Preceding him in death were his parents Daboldt Sr and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling; siblings: Ed, John, Harry, Art, Albert, Henry, Lawrence, Louie, Daboldt, Alvin, Edna and Deloris.

Survivors include his wife Joy of Ellsworth; his three children: Dean Ketterling of Rochester, MN; Shawn Ketterling of Alta, IA; and Brian (Lori) Ketterling of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren: Kali Ketterling; Olivia Hovland; Joy’s children: Robin Beckler, Kyle (Michelle) Mitchell, and Scott (Tanya) Mitchell all of Ellsworth; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Ella Begalow of LaMoure, ND and Marceal Nannenga of Mesa, AZ; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service is Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 5 p.m. at the Abundant Life Church, River Falls.  Visitation is from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, at the church prior to the service.  Burial is in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Beldenville, Wisconsin.
