Randy Gunderson Obituary

Randy Gunderson, age 71, of Woodville, Wisconsin, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones, at the U of M Hospital in Minneapolis.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 7, from 1-4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, prior to the service.

Memorial service for Randy will be Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville.

Randy was born May 16, 1953, to Leonard and Lenore (Gedatus) Gunderson in Baldwin, Wisconsin.  He grew up in the Woodville area and attended Baldwin-Woodville Schools, graduating with the Class of 1971.

After graduation, Randy worked for Gene Wolden Construction, Aaby Plumbing, and Albrightson Excavating before beginning his 35+ year career at the St. Croix County Highway Department.  His last position there was as Patrol Superintendent.  After retiring from the county, he worked for almost 10 years for Lyon’s Pallets in Woodville. He loved fishing, hunting mostly deer and bear, and feeding and watching the birds.  He spent hours on his mower in his own yard and mowing for anyone that needed it. He was grateful to have amazing friends to return the favor for him when he needed the help. He loved tending to his  vegetable and flower gardens for many years.  He was a “Jack of All Trades”, and there was not much that he couldn’t do. In his younger years he enjoyed woodworking following his dad’s hobby.

On February 9, 1974, Randy married Roxann Denzer at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth.  The marriage lasted for 48 years but later dissolved in 2022 although the two remained great friends. They lived most of their lives together in Woodville where they raised their two children: Brandon and Casey. Recently his granddaughter moved into his home to keep him “out of trouble” and together they made so many lasting memories.

Randy spent 30 years with United Fire and Rescue, and about 12 of those years with the ambulance.

He was very involved with his kids and grandkids and became a wrestling coach and 4H leader while they were involved. He always loved watching his children and grandchildren in their sports and was always there to cheer them on. He was a very proud father and grandpa and always made sure they knew it.

He had a great love for his family and showed his love and devotion to them every day, making sure they knew he loved them more than anything.

He will forever be remembered as a hard worker, with a huge heart, always there  for family and friends to help in every way he could. He was a loving and caring man with a tremendous number of family and friends. He left a special place in the hearts of so many and years of happy memories to share.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lenore; son Brandon; sister Mary Overby; great grandson Bentley Gunderson; and father-in-law Don Denzer.

Randy will remain in the hearts of  his daughter Casey (Casey) Weiss; grandchildren: Bryton Gunderson, Makenzie Weiss, and Ashton Weiss; siblings: William (Julia) Gunderson; Leonard ‘Buddy’ (Kathy) Gunderson, Julie Gunderson Conrad; Jim (Karen) Gunderson; his loving partner and friend of 48 years, Roxie Gunderson; mother-in-law Doris Denzer; along with many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are preferred.
