Sharon J VandenBerge

Sharon Joan VandenBerge, age 83, of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at Park View Home in Woodville.

A service celebrating the life of Sharon will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Emmaus Church in Spring Valley.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Hatchville, Wisconsin.

Sharon was born August 3, 1940, to Leonard and Bessie (Barnes) Peterson in El Paso Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin. She grew up in El Paso and attended Ellsworth Schools, graduating with the Class of 1958.

On June 7, 1958, Sharon was married to Johannes VandenBerge at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Beldenville, Wisconsin. They lived in South St. Paul until 1963; then moved to Bellflower, California. They returned to Wisconsin in 1972 where they built their home. They were blessed with two children: Lori and Darren.

Sharon worked as a nurse’s aide for several years at the Spring Valley Nursing Home. She continued her education and attended Red Wing Community College and studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She completed her schooling in 1979. She retired after a 35-year career at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home.

She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies included bird watching, working in her flower gardens, and baking - especially with her grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Marilyn Supri and Wanda Mathison; brother James A. Peterson; and brother-in-laws Wayne Supri and Felton Mathison.

Survivors include her husband, Johannes; children: Lori (Fred) Larson; and Darren (Sharon) VandenBerge; grandchildren: Justin and Easten Larson, and Jordan and Janessa VandenBerge; nieces, nephews; along with relatives and friends.

Urn bearers are Sharon’s grandchildren.
