Steve Kapping, age 69, of Spring Valley died on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at his home in Cady Township.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at the Wilson Legion in Wilson, Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Legion with Military Honors by the Matson-Miller American Legion Post 330 followed by a luncheon also at the Legion.
Steve was born July 4, 1949 to Jack and Bonnie (Trealoff) Kapping in Durand, Wisconsin. He grew up in Spring Lake Township where he attended elementary school and Spring Valley High School, graduating with the Class of 1967. After high school Steve entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart for injuries received, and a Navy Achievement Medal for meritorious service. After returning from active duty, he served in the reserves until 1973.
When he returned home, he worked for Sweeney Brother’s and Timme Construction. On April 5, 1975 he married Sandi Zenzen. They were blessed with 3 children: Ryan, Wes, and Alissa. He enjoyed playing euchre, visiting the casino, and watching the Green Bay Packers with friends. He was always a hard worker and believed in personal accountability.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Wayne and sister Terri.
Survivors include Sandi Kapping, life companion and mother of Steve’s children; Ryan (Lori) Kapping of Spring Valley; Wes (Sarah) Kapping of Winsted, MN; and Alissa (Adam) Johns of Berwyn, IL; 5 grandchildren: Ryan’s children Landry, Hayden and Everly; and Wes’s children Grace and Clara; his siblings: Sue Gregg; Judi (Mark) Hammer; Roger (Sue) Kapping; Pam (Kelly) Falde and Linda (Ron) DeMotts; many other relatives and friends.
