With love and fond memories, we share news of the passing of Timothy Lee Ormson, 65, of Spring Valley at his home on Thursday, November 28, 2024 due to complications with cancer.
Tim lived with and fought lung diseases for 10 years and esophageal cancer for the past three months. He exhibited courage, a fighting spirit, and dignity throughout his battle. Tim was born on April 15, 1959, the son of Dean and Dorothy (Siewert) Ormson, in Menomonie, WI, where he attended and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1978. He was a gifted athlete and was admired as an outstanding football player. He possessed many talents, which lead him to a variety of jobs, to include concrete silo construction near Menomonie, steelworker in Corpus Christie, and truck driver in Dallas, TX. Tim returned to Menomonie to work with his father in the grocery business, and became owner/operator of the SuperValu Foods store in Spring Valley for 10 years. Following this, Tim became a school bus mechanic, semi driver, and school bus driver for Hastings, MN schools, where he fully retired in March, 2024. Tim met, fell in love with, and married Susan Vanasse in Spring Valley on March 8, 1996. Tim adored Sue’s young children and poured himself into being a father to Michelle and Jesse. Together, Tim and Sue built and lived in two beautiful country homes, and one could see the care and pride they took in it inside and outside on the immaculately kept grounds. He loved his family, and in partnership with Sue, they raised their children with strong values, and provided them with many new activities and adventures. Tim was especially proud of introducing their kids to outdoor life with activities such as hunting, fishing, and sports. Tim possessed a magnetic personality. Quick witted and friendly, he found conversation easy and made friends with everybody in all walks of life. You could always count on humor and an uplifted spirit while interacting with Tim. He was particularly attuned to those less fortunate than himself, or those who needed help, and his assistance was readily offered. He was a kind soul, and those who witnessed it were touched by the gentle, consistent, and caring assistance he provided to his mother late in her life and to others who needed help. His mother would beam with happiness when Tim arrived for his daily visits. Tim truly enjoyed time in the outdoors. He looked forward with great anticipation to taking his family on an annual trek to the Northwoods cabin, and he found delight in his trips to fish there with family, and particularly with Michelle. In addition to his great joy in catching fish, his hunting time was a highly important event that he looked forward to each Fall. Another yearly ritual Tim enjoyed was making lefse for family and friends in preparation for the Christmas season. He was a master of his craft, and he found much satisfaction in sharing his works and seeing his lefse being gobbled up. The Brewers were Tim’s lifelong number one team and he made friends with several of the players. He made his team known through his signs, banners, clothing, and he even named his loyal German Shepard “Brewer”. He was a loyal fan no matter how the team fared. Tim was also a great Packers fan and was adept in ribbing those partial to the Vikings or Twins. Being proud of his family, Tim leaned forward in learning, recording, and communicating his family lineage. Tim’s personality garnered a wide circle of friends. He appreciated and gave personal thanks to many caregivers, and he made a point to learn their names and something about them, regardless of their positions. His recent caregivers stretched from medical facilities in Stillwater, Regions hospital, Hudson hospital, and other locations. Tim’s most valued friends stood by to help him throughout his life journey. Michelle and Jesse carried the torch while caring for Tim during his declining health. The family gives special thanks to Marlon Anderson, Todd (Mog) Moessner, and Mark (Cubby) Smith for consistently willing their time, patience, support, and care to Tim during his recent challenges. Tim was preceded in death by his father Dean, mother Dorothy Ormson, his wife Sue, stepdaughter-in-law Shannon Johnson, and her and Jesse’s son Leo. He is survived by his brothers, Greg (Debbie) of Apache Junction AZ, Mitch (Patty) of Chaska MN, Brian (Tammy) of Glenwood City, stepson Brandon (Brenda) Johnson and granddaughter Adia of Spring Valley, stepson Jesse Johnson and granddaughter Mila of Spring Valley, stepdaughter Michelle (Jess) Moe and grandchildren Hudson and Molly of Spring Valley, and many other valued relatives and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, and also for one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.
