Una Mae was born April 4th, 1935, in Ellsworth, WI to Bernard and Marie (nee Nelson) Demuth. She was the 2nd of 8 children and a twin with the oldest. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953.
On June 7, 1955 she married Richard (Dick) Kannel at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. They started their married life in St. Paul MN where Una worked for a telephone company. They finally settled in Spring Valley, WI. Along with raising her 10 children, she had a daycare and took in foster children. She also tended bar part time in the evenings. She always said that she babysat the neighborhood kids during the day and babysat their parents at night.
When all her kids were in school, she went to work in the Spring Valley School District, where she worked for more than 20 years. She started out as an aide to the disabled and worked her way into the district office.
After 10 years of being widowed she married Robert (Bob) Jenny on April 4th, 2008. They lived happily in Spring Valley until he entered Birch Haven Care Center in November of 2017, to provide the additional care that his Alzheimer’s journey required.
Some of Una’s favorite things in life were spending time with her family, playing cards with her siblings, visiting with her adult children, watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow, her faith in the Lord, and tending to her many flower gardens and plants.
