Verla Solberg Obituary

Verla Solberg, age 87, of Hammond, Wisconsin, died Monday, May 11, 2026, at her home in Pleasant Valley Township.

Visitation will be from 10:30 until 12 noon on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Peace Lutheran Church, Baldwin.

A memorial service for Verla will also be on Saturday, May 16 at 12 noon at Peace Lutheran following the visitation.

Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service at Peace.

Verla was born December 20, 1938, in Spring Lake Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin to Harry and Margaret ‘Peg’ (Brahmer) Wentlandt.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Spring Valley and a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church, rural Baldwin. She grew up and attended Spring Valley Schools, graduating with the Class of 1956.

After high school she lived and worked in the cities. On October 10, 1959, Verla married Herb Solberg at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Cady Township.  They lived in Richfield, Minnesota for several years and in 1972 moved to their home in Pleasant Valley.

Verla was involved in her daughters’ 4-H activities and loved watching her grandchildren play sports and other school activities.  She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, the Women of Peace, and participated in Quilting Day.  She was always willing to help out whenever needed.  She loved to cook and feed everyone.  She was also a bit of a jokester and enjoyed playing cards and having a good time being with her family.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Harry and Peg, husband Herb, brother Barry Wentlandt,  brother in-laws Bob Shafer, George Solberg, Freddie Solberg, and sister in-law, Shirley Busch.

She is survived by daughters: Sherrie (Dean) LeMay of Glenwood City, WI, Julie Solberg of Hammond, WI and Amy (James) O’Keefe of Woodville, WI, 2 grandchildren Tyler (Helen Paglia) O’Keefe and Tana (Michael Buchman) O’Keefe, 2 step-grandchildren, Melissa LeMay and Marie LeMay, 4 step great grandchildren, sisters Jean Shafer and Kathleen (Roger) Hellendrung, and sister in-law Char Wentlandt, other relatives and friends.

Urn bearers are Tyler and Tana O'Keefe.
